Okoroire is one of those Waikato spots locals love and visitors rarely find. The natural hot pools sit beside the heritage Okoroire Hot Springs Hotel — soak in the bush, then wander up for a meal at one of the oldest pubs in the country.

What to do

The thermal pools

Natural, bush-fringed hot pools accessed through the hotel for a small fee. Rustic and quiet — not a modern spa, which is exactly the charm.

The historic hotel & pub

The Okoroire Hot Springs Hotel dates to the 1880s. Great for a meal, a craft beer in the garden bar, or a stay the night.

9-hole golf

A characterful little golf course right by the hotel — clubs can be hired.

Nearby: the Blue Spring

The famous crystal-clear Blue Spring on the Te Waihou Walkway is a short drive away — pair the two for an easy day trip.

Getting there

Okoroire is signposted off SH1/SH5 between Matamata and Tirau. From central Matamata it's a 15–20 minute drive. There's parking at the hotel.
